Many factors contribute to an out-of-shape stomach, including overeating, age and inconsistent activity. Exercising the abdominal muscles on a regular basis is one way to achieve a flat stomach; however, there are other things that can help accomplish a washboard stomach. One way is to eat foods that can help rid the body of belly fat.
Whole Grains
According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, whole grains can play a large part in shedding belly fat. A study conducted by the AJCN showed that those individuals who consumed whole grains, in addition to a healthy diet, were able to lose more abdominal fat than those who ate refined grains, even while eating an otherwise healthy diet. The secret is that whole grains make it easier for the body to slow the storage of fats. This happens because whole grains change the body's response to insulin and glucose levels. Whole grains also help the body feel less hungry for a longer period than refine grains, allowing the person to eat less food in general.
Seeds and Nuts
Seeds and nuts contain monounsaturated fats. These types of fats are easier to burn off during exercise and regular activity than other types of fats. For this reason, individuals who eat more monounsaturated fats are more likely to have smaller stomachs because the fat is easier to work off. Monosaturated fats also help stimulate an individual's metabolism, which again will help burn fat at a faster rate.
Green Vegetables
Green vegetables provide vitamins and minerals that your body needs to flourish and survive. The fiber in green vegetables stabilizes the body's blood sugar and slows glycemic response. These actions work together to stop fat from gathering around the mid section.
Lean protein
Lean protein should be a staple in your diet. Lean protein stops cravings and helps the body fill full. Protein is known as the building block for the body's muscle. The more lean muscle mass built in the body, the less fat that will exist in the same area. Another great benefit to eating lean protein is that it regulates insulin levels and increases metabolism.
Olive Oil
A good choice for cooking foods is olive oil. Olive oil is a monounsaturated fat. The human body metabolizes these types of fats at a faster rate than saturated fats, which may lead to further weight loss. The British Journal of Nutrition published a study in 2003 suggesting that monounsaturated fats, from products such as olive oil, break down fats stored within the body. Once the fat was broken down, it was easier for the body to release and eliminate the fat. Replace oils in your diet that contain saturated fats with olive oil to increase your belly fat loss.
