Vegan Diet for Fat Loss

Vegan Diet for Fat Loss

If you are interested in being kind to animals and losing weight, then a vegan, fat-busting diet is the right thing for you. With strict adherence, former model Kim Barnouin claims that youll be skinny in no time. While the pounds may slide off, you may be in for a full body makeover. Veganism isnt just a diet; its a lifestyle.

Basics

Vegans avoid all foods produced using animals or animal by-products. This includes meat, fish, poultry, eggs, honey, dairy products, gelatin and whey. It even goes beyond food. Vegans also avoid furs, leather, silk and even beeswax. Vegans take the cause of stopping animal cruelty seriously.

Food Staples

Include these basic ingredients in any vegan diet: lots of organic vegetables, some fruit and a moderate to minimal amount of the healthy fats found in avocados, nuts, flax seed, sunflower oil and olive oil. Vegetables are an obvious choice; they can fill you up without adding many calories. Fruits provide a rush of sweet that is unrefined and natural, as well as fiber that your body needs. Healthy fats should be consumed with a bit more moderation, depending on how your body responds and how much it needs.

Carbohydrates

Eating unprocessed, complex carbohydrates energizes your body. Canadian author and weight loss coach Craig Ballantyne explains, I get my carbs from living foods which are also rich in essential vitamins, minerals, fiber and enzymes. But be aware of the kinds of carbohydrates you eat when trying to lose fat.

Veg Family Magazine author Shayla Roberts suggests the MacDougall Program vegan diet, which recommends unprocessed grains and no flour or refined soy products. While generally allowed in the vegan lifestyle, these are not approved sources for weight loss on the MacDougall Plan for vegans.

Protein

Trying a high protein, low carbohydrate vegan weight loss plan can drop the pounds fast, but it may not be quite as sustainable. This plan includes soy foods, seitan and fake meat products. However, faux meat products are quite processed. Sticking with the natural whole foods mentioned above will not only allow you to shed some pounds, but you will probably feel better in the process, too.
