Rum and colas are typical happy hour or party cocktails. If we are watching our caloric intake, we would do well to pay attention to the sneaky substances that can blow a diet plan before we know it. Diet colas are typically touted as having zero calories, but rum itself can easily add up after a couple of drinks. Add this to my Recipe Box.
About Rum
Rum, like all alcohols, is a product of fermentation. Rum is produced by fermenting sugar and water and then aging the spirits into the final product. Most rums are made with molasses, which has a sugar content of about 50 percent as well as a distinct taste that adds flavor. Cane sugar and juice are other types of sugars used. The sugars are fermented with yeasts for a period of one day or several weeks depending on the desired final result and then aged for flavor in wooden casks for one or several years.

Bacardi produces several varieties of rum including their Superior brand which is commonly used in mixed drinks like rum and colas. They also have dark rums, fruit flavored rums, premade frozen daiquiris, pina coladas and other mixers.

Calories in Regular and Diet Colas
